Yes — for a flush, professional finish the light requires a suitably sized back box fitted into the wall. Your electrician will be able to confirm the correct size when they assess your wall. Surface-mount installation without a back box may also be possible depending on your wall type.

The light is controlled via a standard wall switch the kind you will already have for other fixed lighting in your home.
