Motion Sensor or Standard Switch?

Motion Sensor

Detects movement as you walk towards it and turns on by itself — nothing to reach for. Best above a dressing table or in a hallway, where your hands are usually full.

Standard Switch

A conventional on/off switch on the fitting. Best above artwork or a desk, where you want the light on only when you choose.

Light That Notices You

Choose the motion sensor option and the bar switches on as you approach — no fumbling for a switch in a dim hallway.

It is the detail that makes a room feel considered rather than just decorated.

Unlit, the slim bar sits low and quiet against the wall.

Where it goes

Above the Mirror, Above the Art

Mount it over a dressing-table mirror for shadow-free light exactly where you need it.

Or angle the arm down over a framed print, and give the artwork the gallery treatment.

The arm sets both angle and reach after fitting, so the beam lands where you want it.

Questions

What is the difference between the Motion Sensor and Standard Switch versions?

The Motion Sensor version detects movement as you walk towards the light and turns on automatically — no switch needed. It is ideal for hallways, dressing tables, or anywhere a hands-free experience matters. The Standard Switch version has a conventional on/off switch and suits spots where you want manual control, such as above a desk or a picture you light only occasionally. Both versions are identical in every other respect.

Does this need a qualified electrician to fit?

Yes. This is a mains-wired fitting that connects permanently to your household electrical circuit. UK building regulations require that new lighting circuits and connections to existing circuits in most rooms are carried out or signed off by a qualified electrician. Please factor this into your plans — the light itself is straightforward to install once the wiring is in place.

Is this suitable for a bathroom or en suite?

No. This fitting carries no IP rating and must not be installed in a bathroom, shower room, or any wet or damp area. It is designed for dry indoor rooms: bedrooms, hallways, studies, and kitchens.

How do I choose between 42.5 cm and 52.5 cm?

Measure the mirror or frame you want to light, and pick a bar roughly half to two thirds of its width. The 42.5 cm (16.7 in) suits anything up to about 80 cm (31 in) wide; the 52.5 cm (20.7 in) works from there up to around 100 cm (39 in). When you are between the two, the shorter bar always looks more considered than one that overhangs.

Can I fit this without drilling into the wall?

There are two mounting methods. The bracket screws flat to the wall above your mirror or artwork, or it clamps onto the top of a mirror cabinet — useful if the wall behind is tiled or you would rather not drill. Either way the mains connection still needs an electrician.
